Living in Windsor

The Castle View retirement village in Windsor is situated on Helston Lane, approximately a 10 minute walk from Windsor town centre. Many of our residents walk daily into the town centre but If you don't fancy the walk then a taxi into Windsor  currently costs £5 each way.

Windsor has excellent facilities ranging from the historic castle area, extensive shops and restaurants, the Theatre Royal and a comprehensive leisure centre.

Extensive transport links provide easy access to London by rail and coach, and quick access to the motorway network with the M4 less than 2 miles away. Local buses provide easy access to the centre of Windsor and to the surrounding area.

We are adjacent to Dedworth Road which houses a mini Waitrose, Tesco Express, a large Tesco, chemists and  petrol stations. In the centre of Windsor you will find an impressive array of shops ranging from smart high street names to smaller independent shops. There are all the usual services such as chemists, hardware shops and hairdressers etc.

It is hard to find a street in Windsor without a restaurant, there is so much choice. In fact, there were 159 at the last count! You can enjoy a quick bite, a pub lunch or a full formal dining experience.

Windsor Great Park is a beautiful 5,000 acres of deer inhabited parkland, probably most memorable for the long tree lined royal drive up to the Castle.

The River Thames passes through Windsor giving rise to plenty of riverside cafés, restaurants and pretty viewing points, as well as possibilities for boat trips. Castle View have organised boat trips for our residents and will continue to do so weather dependent!

Windsor is home to the Theatre Royal, situated opposite the Castle. It stages a variety of professional productions throughout the year. Castle View have strong links with the theatre and our residents are frequent visitors.

Walking distance from Castle View is Windsor Leisure Centre with fitness swimming pool, leisure swimming pool, exercise classes and gym.

I moved into Castle View in late November to be near my son, Robert and my daughter, Jane. Although life in Windsor is very different from that in a small Lakeland village, I am settling in well largely due to the enthusiastic welcome and support of the caring Castle View team. I look forward to making new friends and enjoying an exciting new chapter in my life
