Living in a Retirement Development

To help people understand what it is really like to live in an award-winning retirement development read our top ‘myth busters’ below.

I’m not ready to lose my independence?

You won’t. It is your life, your home, you chose what to do and when. The main difference is that there is a like-minded community, all aged over 55, and a little extra support when needed with 24-hour reception cover. John & Margaret felt they weren’t ready but since moving in 2 years ago, now say their health has improved as a result of their decision to move.

I can’t make it my own home?

Yes, you can. When you buy a property at Castle View, it is yours to decorate as you wish, making it your home, to your taste. Patricia, pictured, is a proud property owner at Castle View and recently invited us in to see her gorgeous apartment. Blue and green are her favourite colours.

People will think I/we live in a care home.

Yet you don’t. In fact, living in a retirement development is very forward thinking, but at present we must appreciate that the concept of living in a retirement village is relatively new and not fully understood in the UK. However, interest and demand for this type of home, which is more common in the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, is now increasing. The most common phrase we hear when people look around is ‘Wow, I never thought it would be like this’, which property owners at Castle View (and ourselves) rather like to hear! Just you wait until you invite your family, friends, and guests round for drinks and see their envy for yourself!

I can’t bring my beloved pet.

Yes, you can. We understand how important pets are so if they are loving natured, trained and on the ground floor with immediate outside access, they are welcome. Jan, pictured below, loves the garden, but doesn’t have her own pet, so often walks with Poppy (her neighbour’s dog)!

It will be full of old single ladies nursing a cold cup of tea.

Not at Castle View, this simply isn’t true. With our restaurant and two bars, including our spectacular Sky Lounge and bar, a lively social scene is never far away. Cocktail evenings, bridge, yoga, games nights, parties, high tea. Currently, we have 10 married couples living at Castle View and the rest are single men and ladies, a very balanced mix - all of whom respect each other’s privacy and right to choose when they wish to join in.

More Myth Busting coming soon...

Although I’ve downsized I actually have more living space. All my furniture fits in so beautifully it’s as if this apartment was just made for me. I really enjoy being in central Windsor so easily accessible for all my friends and family. I love inviting them to Castle View for a meal as the food is delicious and I looking forward to never using my nice new shiny oven!
